Abstract: This kit offers employers information on the importance of workplace HIV/AIDS education programs to their employees, their businesses, the surrounding community, and all of India.
The pamphlet serves as a resource guide for CEOs encouraging them to establish and support workplace HIV/AIDS education programs for their employees. Offers general background information about HIV/AIDS and the economic costs of the epidemic. Gives examples of successful workplace initiatives elsewhere and also examples of policies and programs that did not work such as mandatory testing and fear-based campaigns. An extensive question/answer section guides CEOs through the reasons why a workplace HIV/AIDS program is important to their business, and what they can do to start a program .
The first film showcases diverse HIV/AIDS workplace programs that are part of a growing movement in the corporate realm in India. Over 5 million people in India are infected with HIV, and because the age group affected is generally the most productive working years, India's economy could be severely affected. Many companies have implemented programs from simply raising awareness to actually opening referral and treatment clinics for their workers and the surrounding communities. This film illustrates how these programs can make a difference in the lives of the employees and to a business' bottom line.
The second film highlights the workplace programs of two different large corporations. Despite the differences between the industries, they tell similar stories of initial resistance, but eventual embrace of the program by the workers. Both programs feature social workers, counselors, peer educators, and on-site clinics for the workers and their families. Both programs reach out to the families and communities, recognizing that their workers are affected by their environment. less

Notes: Kit contains PL IND 473, DV IND 1 and DV IND 2.
