Notes: See also PL INO 397 for a related pamphlet and FC INO 21 for a related flipchart.|Community-Based Avian Influenza Control (CBAIC) is a thirty-six month program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented under the leadership of Development Alternatives, Inc. (DAI). CBAIC works with government, private sector, NGOs, community groups and other stakeholders to strengthen the GOI's AI planning and pandemic preparedness to minimize the risk of avian influenza (AI) infection and transmission in human and animal populations and ensure quick and effective treatment and management of AI-infected humans and animals. The initial period of the first phase of the project is from August 2006 through July 2007 with an option of a two-year project extension.
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Center for Communication Programs (CCP) is DAI's subcontractor for the program. CCP will focus on heightening awareness, recognition, and prevention of AI among high risk groups. CCP will develop a coordinated communication strategy and specific behavior change communication interventions that build upon existing activities and to protect poultry health and mitigate AI's impact on human health.
CCP will support DAI in the implementation of community-based AI control activities in Indonesia initially in the following areas: Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, DKI Jakarta, DI Yogyakarta, Bali, North Sumatra and Lampung. CCP's work focuses on the following three main activities: (1) national-level coordination of awareness and prevention activities; (2) community-based surveillance, outreach, and awareness; and (3) behavior change communication (BCC). less
