********************************************** USEFULNESS OF INCLUDING ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE, TESTIMONIALS AND QUALITATIVE RESEARCH RESULTS IN PATIENT EDUCATION MATERIALS ********************************************** Mary-Doug Wright, Librarian / Information Specialist at the Centre for Health Services & Policy Research in Vancouver, BC Canada writes that she is looking for discussion of the usefulness of including anecdotal evidence, testimonials and qualitative research results in patient education materials. What is the opinion of experts in the field on inclusion of non-evidence-based therapies or treatments in these materials? Is it risky to do so? She has already searched Medline, Embase, CINAHL, Psycinfo, ERIC, Dissertation Abstracts and the NLM's Locatorplus so far.

I recently received information on the Health Communication Materials Network at JHU. Our organization, the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) is very interested in participating in HCMN. We are a mid-sized research group, founded in 1976, that conducts research, provides technical support and undertakes advocacy to improve the social and health status of women in developing countries.
We produce several publications each year--research reports, information bulletins, postcards/posters, etc... and we would be happy to share our work and learn from others in the field. As librarian, I would be the contact person for HCMN. Please let me know if there are any steps I need to take to become a member. Thanks very much for your assistance.
