Frontiers in Reproductive Health (FRONTIERS) is a five-year program that conducts research aimed at improving the delivery of family planning and reproductive health services in developing countries. It focuses on operations research (OR), which uses systematic research techniques to improve service delivery and influence related policies. FRONTIERS submitted the following documents to HCMN:

My name is Gia Mudd and I am presently on the faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Nursing. As a former health care organizer working in South American, then with migrant farm workers in the US, and most recently with the Mexican/Mexican-American population along the TX-Mexico border, I am most interested in the Health Communication Materials Network. Personal experience with developing promotora/community health worker education programs both in South America and in the United States opens a pathway by which both to learn and to contribute. Beyond this, however, I am interested in developments related to community-based health initiatives and health communications research. This is related to my doctoral studies, the focus of which is development communication as central to successful community-based health strategizing. I work in press relations; I organize the launch of the AIDS Resource Center and any other ARC-related events; I develop and maintain a close relationship with print and broadcast journalists; I develop and support a network of AIDS journalists in Ethiopia; I organize press conferences for the ARC and the National AIDS Secretariat; write press releases and have started press clipping services at the ARC. I also do capacity building which includes: organizing and /or training journalists on how best to report on HIV/AIDS; liaising with other AIDS journalists networks in the region; developing guidelines for reporting on HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia; assisting the ARC Librarian by researching information that journalists need. Finally I work in materials development: I produce a quarterly newsletter for the ARC; write/edit content of materials developed; develop and maintain the content of the ARC web site; develop media kits for journalists; a set of HIV/AIDS fact sheets. I also initiate ways in which to promote the ARC, monitor and document the work achieved, and rport to the ARC Coordinator and attend staff meetings.

I've been associated with HCMN for a long time. I must say it provides a

I'm President of Sustainable Resource Foundation (SuRF). We work in social
development, communication for behaviour and social change, social
